Week 7 Prompt Post: Contemplating Controversy
I must admit that this week’s
prompt topic is so hard for me due to the specificity of my major which is
mechanical engineering. As we know, mechanical engineer is rigorous work so
that this major requires every mechanical engineer has rigorous thinking power
because everything that mechanical engineers design or build relate to
society’s secure and human’s life, so even though I spend hours on internet and
MSU libraries, I can not find single controversy for my field which makes me
very sad. I keep searching on bloggers, and finally I find one mechanical
engineer blogsport which has completing controversy, I bet that this author
must be one of Prof. Sarah Gibbons’ former friends. She or he gives a
controversy about nuclear weapon and the topic gives me hope to finish this
week’s prompt post, thank god.
The content below gives both side of
nuclear weapon, though it relates to physical and nuclear science, but they are
part of mechanical engineering, so I think it is suitable for this week’s
prompt post and I DO NOT have my opinion with the controversy. And the
controversy is that should a country spend money on developing nuclear weapons
during peacetime?
From the survey of
nuclearfiles.org, most voters say that U.S government spend too much on nuclear
weapons and strong majority republicans are opposed to spend taxes on
developing nuclear weapons. Moreover, Americans are ready to eliminate all
nuclear weapons. In America,
the attitude that people towards to nuclear weapons is to cancel it at all.
The controversy is between
Chinese and Americans. China’s
government concentrates on developing nuclear weapons and our people support
it. In China,
the priority thing is secure. And the leader of China and fellow people think
that only developing nuclear weapons can bring peace, as the nuclear weapons
protected new born China after world war, people in China believe in it without
doubts.
