Week 3 Free Post: The Secret Of Nikola Tesla-movie

I am going to introduce you guys a engineering film as my free post for this week, the film’s name is “The Secret Of Nikola Tesla” First, let me give you a brief introduction of Nikola Tesla himself. Nikola Tesla was born in July 10 1856, Croatia, he is a world-renowned inventor, physicist, mechanical engineer and electrical engineer. He is considered as an important promoter of commercial electricity, and presided over the design of modern AC power systems are widely used and best known. He spent his whole life on providing free energy to human but never used them in battlefields never for money.

This film is all about life times of Nikola Tesla and after I watched this film, I feel sorry and also angry. When Nikola Tesla worked in Edison’s workshop, Edison squeezed Tesla and never agreed with his invention, eventually, Edison stole Tesla’s invention and only paid him fifty thousand dollars for Tesla’s work, if Edison did not do that, today’s technology may faster than our current technology, which makes me sad and angry. Tesla never asked for money, he never sold his invention to privates but give them to public, his inventions are not for money but contribution to mankind, I admire him. Nikola Tesla, a legend that will never fall.

The movie is also named “Tajna Nikole Tesle” directed by Krsto Papic, the funny part is that I think the actor Petar Bozovic; he is almost as same as Tesla. Although the film was made in 1980, maybe it looks like very old, I suggest you to watch it if you truly interested in Nikola Tesla.

Week 2 Prompt Post: Comparing two mechanical engineer blogs

First, I apologize for the late post for my week 2 because I was sick due to this bad weather, I hate the snow lol. By reading the articles “Classes Every Mechanical Engineer Should Take” and “About Engineer” I found that both article use first person to express their opinion and there are no citations for both of them.  Due to some reasons, I think that “Classes Every Mechanical Engineer Should Take” is more formal and the other one is informal.

In the article “Classes Every Mechanical Engineer Should Take” posted by Gears, the author did a splendid job on word choice, every words is simple because as a international student; and also, I think the author use list style to list what classes should a mechanical engineer takes and what goal should they achieve is wisely, because the list style can make people see your point clearly, and I think it is more formal.

In the article “About Engineer” posted by Ellen Berlinghof, the author told people why he chose mechanical engineer as his major, what classes should a mechanical engineer take, Hopkins and his experiences about engineering. The author also uses simple words to write his article which is good for me. The article is very long and contains a lot of information which I mention above. The author also inserts some hyperlinks in the article; it is more convenient for people to get to the websites which he searched for his article. He uses hyperlinks in stead of citations, so I think it is informal. But it is his blog, so I like the free style.

Week 2 free post: Self-Transforming Mobile Robot

The video I give is about a self-transforming mobile robot. The reason of why I select this video as my free post for this week is that I saw many students brought their Lego robots with them for EGR 100 in MSU, and that’s reminds me the time I was in EGR 100 class, It was a fun time according to my memory, so I post this video to let people who are interested in robot watch a self-transforming mobile robot, It is fantastic.

The outlook of this self-transforming mobile robot is like a spider or I think it is like a spider. It has 4 legs all with touch sensors. The robot can do spin, stand and even climb to a slope. Like the Lego robot we did in EGR 100 class, I think the creator made programs to control the robot. There are also 4 wheels on each of the legs so that the robot can move smoothly.

The creator is also a student in college of engineering; I wish that someday I can make a robot even better than this. Wish me succeed. Hope whoever visit my blogg enjoy this video, thanks.

Week 1 Prompt Post: 10 questions and answers about Mechanical Engineer

1. What jobs are available with Mechanical Engineer?

• Mechanical Engineer will research, innovate, design, and develop Mechanical solutions at the component and platform level.
• Mechanical Engineer will the design and develop complex mechanical assemblies and platform chassis design.
• Make prototypes through hands on fabrication and will be in charge of supplier management.
• Make proposal drawing from sketches, wiring or schematic drawings.
• Conduct first article inspection, mechanical assembly and tolerance analysis.

2. What is the income of Mechanical Engineers?

The average income of a mechanical engineer is $85,000 per year.

3. Is it easy for mechanical engineers to find a job?

Job prospects for mechanical engineers look extremely good. Due to the graduation is difficult, a mechanical engineer is popular.

4. How much free time for a mechanical engineer?

Considering that mechanical engineer is a very busy career, normally, a mechanical engineer works 8 to 9 hours per day, but depends on your company’s schedule.

5. Are the mechanical engineer related work dead-end jobs?
Mechanical engineer is sort of dead-end job due to many people work in the factory for their whole life and still not gets promoted; however, mechanical engineers can also have chance to transfer to another career like designing structures.
6. The opportunity for mechanical engineer is better in China or USA?
In my opinion, there are a lot of mechanical engineers in China because students in China’s engineer department are easier to graduate; moreover, the population of China is huge so it is hard to find a good job as a mechanical engineer. To me, I think I can get a better opportunity in USA.

7. Is it risky for mechanical engineers during work?
The answer is definitely yes. Every job has its risk, mechanical engineers usually work with heavily equipment and machines, accidents may happen, like I have heard a lot people cut their fingers or legs during work, so be careful during work.

9. Is it easy for students graduate from department of mechanical engineer in MSU?
It is extremely hard. This year, the minimum GPA requirement for mechanical engineer is 3.1, and calculus is all difficult, it is really hard to get in college, so it is the graduation.

9. Is it important to learn those fundamental skills in mechanical engineer like CAD, Mat Lab and UG?
I can honestly tell you that those skills are the main part for higher level skills, you need CAD to draw your structures and you need Mat Lab to write your data. Yes they are important. And In MSU, you will learn these skills from EGR 100 level courses, work hard!

10. What I think this field in the soon future?
The number of mechanical engineers has increased recently; it may hard to find a good job in the soon future after you graduate from college. However, do not give up, if you have some work experience, I think those companies which need a lot of engineer like Boeing. I think this field is still good in the soon future.

Week 1 Free Post: Mechanical Engineering Career Investigation

As I am closing to get into the college of Mechanical Engineering, I am truly curious about what exactly kind of work I will do in the future and I also want to see the real machine used by mechanical engineers. I actually searched a lot pictures and videos and I am glad to see that most of my questions have been answered. To me, this video is extremely helpful because it shows variety of machines and it also explains popular questions well like "Do mechanical engineers work closely with other types engineer?" The video is not only opened my eyes, but also it solves confusing questions for me. I suggest every students of engineer department should watch this video; it is going to be helpful. Besides of knowing my questions, I feel responsibility form this video deeply. There are some mechanical engineers designing vehicles in the video, they put all their attention into each component and structure of automobile designing, they show their respect to both work and human life because they know that a small mistake during design will be harmful. Mechanical engineers are noble,  and I believe I can be one of them in the soon future.

About Me

Hello to whoever reads this text. My name is Jiajun Zhao and I am currently a sophomore in Michigan State University. I am an international student from Dalian, the pearl of northern China, unlike the heavily touristy areas like Beijing and HongKong, Dalian is famous for its comfortable temperature and fresh seafood, the average temperature is about 52 Fahrenheit, when summer comes, people want to travel to Dalian to take shelter from the hot summer. Also, Dalian is a “soccer city”, every men in Dalian knows how to play soccer, the best soccer team in Dalian is AERBIN, I think it is the best team in China. If someday you plan to visit my hometown, I will be your guide.

My previous major is Bachelor of Arts in economics; I chose it as major because when I was in high school, I had great interest in marketing and economics. This year since my mom expected me to study in this area for career, I changed my major into Mechanical Engineer. I get some troubles on studying this, I am trying to catch up on the basic lessons so that I will not have hard time during my school year. Indeed, the application requirements of the college of engineering is very high. It is no doubt that I need to study hard in this term as well as the rest of terms to get into the college of engineering. This is why I got these stresses along with me.

I like to play some competitive PC games, recently, I am focusing league of legend due to the reset of rank competition. I enjoy communicating with teammates during game and the excitement can also keep my brain active. If you are willing to play rank in league of legend, come find me and I believe we can be friends and cooperate smoothly.

I think that this blog is not only used for WRA 150, but also a good platform for communications. Thank you for visiting my blog.
