Here is professional engineering code of ethics form
eHow: “The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) explains that the
work of engineers directly affects the public in ways that impact health,
safety and wellness. It is for this reason that engineers must hold themselves
to a strict code of ethics that acknowledges this responsibility and encourages
attention to detail and quality work.”
1. WellnessIt is the engineers' responsibility to inform their employers, clients and other authorities if any decisions they have made to secure the safety of people and property have been overridden, so that their project's integrity is not compromised. It is imperative that safety and well-being be a priority for an engineer at all times.
2. Trustworthiness
Engineers are responsible for keeping their clients' and employers' private information in confidence unless given permission by the client or by law to reveal it.
3. Competency
Engineering trades are highly specialized and require formal education in specific fields of interest, including structural engineering, chemical engineering and electrical engineering. The NSPE demands that engineers provide services only in the area of the field in which they are an expert.
4. Professionalism
Engineers are entrusted with ensuring the public's safety, health and wellness by presenting plans and specifications that adhere to standard engineering rules and regulations. Extending past occupational duties, the NSPE encourages engineers to promote public well-being by assisting in youth mentoring and community service.
5. Accountability
While industry standards in engineering ethics have been set by the NSPE, only engineers who choose to become members of the society are held accountable for upholding these standards. Members of the public can report a society engineer in the event that they suspect an engineer of not following the Code of Ethics.
These codes of ethics list very clearly and I believe
in it with no doubts. Mechanical engineers work with machine and responsible
for their products, they are all related to lives and property, as mechanical
engineer, we must perform our best in order to take responsibility to people
and society.
Three ways in which I am doing in college related to
ethics
1.
In EGR 100, I had already learned that we should keep our
clients and other members’ private information, and never plagiaries other’s
work or reports. This is relates to ethics of trustworthiness.
2.
Also in EGR 100, when we built our lego robot project, we
needed to use lots of tools to accomplish our project, I always told my members
to be careful during work, and I always volunteered to check safety of tools
and programs. This is relates to ethics of wellness.
3.
In MSU, I am always concentrate on stuffs on mechanical
engineers, I got all 4.0 on the two elementary EGR classes and I continue to
study with all my energy, I try to make ethical decisions. This is relates to
ethics of competency.
