Week 7 Free Post: Choices After You Graduate From ME As a International Student

In the morning of the day, my mother called me and asked about my recent situation on studying and life in East Lansing, and I told her everything is just fine on studying, only calculus is a little bit trouble, besides, I hate the damn weather in East Lansing. I was able to answer all the questions that she was curious about, but when she asked what is my plan after I graduate from Mechanical Engineer, I wasn’t able to answer this one quickly. So I told my mother that I have no plan yet, will think about it seriously and then reply.

As international students, if you graduate from college, there are two options waiting for you, the first one is postgraduate and the other one is to find a job, or you will be the one who stays the USA illegally.

For the first choice, I think it is not an easy way to go for most people. According to my experiences, the classes that I am taking it right now belong to the very basic level, however, I think they are already difficult, not extremely, but require you to work hard. I have heard that if you can get into the college, the situation will get worse. Why??? Maybe because we are not learning them in our first language and besides ME is a hard major to nether get in or get out. However, if your GPA is good and you think you have no troubles on studying those stuffs, I think postgraduate is your best choice, you learn more, you earn more.

Personally, I prefer the second choice, because if you can get a job in USA, you can live in USA of course if you like it. But most important thing is that you can get work experience and I think that is the core to a mechanical engineer. If you want to back to China or your own country, the work experience from USA will make you become valuable. Besides, you can make money for yourself if you get a job, it will release your family’s pressure more or less.

Hope this blog can help some students in ME when they graduate.
